Training round up

This has been my break through week. Finally got over illness, backed off rowing and got some miles in.

I took every opportunity I could to get on the bike, be it a sprint round the block, and indoor session or a long ride and covered a total of 159 miles. It may not sound much to seasoned professionals but its double my recent output.

My plan is to continue this and transform the rowing fitness into bike conditioning. In preparation for the Flat out in the Fens I’ve been riding the big gears on my normal training routes. Its meant that the 14% and 16% gradients have been tough but the legs feel stronger for it.

Still not sure if I can manage the 153 mile Fens route so will see how it goes on the day. I’m hoping there shall be some decent pack riding leading to the miles falling away.

I love this bike, some would say too much with the amount of time I spend maintaining it! But if I'm going to be going 50mph down a mountain I want to know its in good shape.

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interface developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycling training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family could follow what I am up to. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
